The Business Case for Work/Life Balance
Increasingly, managers and employers understand the importance of supporting good work/life balance among their staff. The evidence about the benefits for business is mounting and employers are increasingly implementing practices that help staff maintain a healthy balance between their work and the rest of their lives. One estimate places the cost of a lack of work/life balance at $12 billion each year.
Changes in Parental Work Time and Earnings
The weekly work hours of couples increased from an average of 58 in 1976 to 65 hours in 2008. This recently published study by Statistics Canada statistically proves what most us know already: that modern Canadian families are spending more time than ever on the job, which can largely be attributed to the rising labour market participation of women.
