Branch Announcements

The Main branch will undergo two improvement periods. Services to the public will be affected as follows:

Phase 1: Late April – Early June

  • The children’s section will be closed
  • There will be limited programming
  • Children can access computers in the adult section
  • There will be a limited children’s collection
  • The Health collection will move from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor

Phase 2: Late May – Early July

  • No public computers on the 3rd floor
  • Limited access to microfilm
  • Limited access to magazines on the 3rd floor

The results of these improvements will be:

  • Renovated children’s area including a new floor plan with improved sight lines
  • Furniture upgrades
  • Increased public space on the 3rd floor
  • Consolidation of all bookable public internet computers for adults, on the 3rd floor

 The book drop will be available during each improvement period.

A Guide to Computers and the Internet for Older Adults

This seven week workshop designed for those aged 50+ introduces the participant to computers, a computer mouse, some basic text processing, saving and organizing files, using and basic searching of the Internet and using the web-based email called Gmail. About Main

The hub of the 33-branch OPL system, the Main branch the largest library in the system, with the greatest selection of material of all kinds and the most public access Internet stations in the city. Located downtown in the heart of the business and government communities, the Main branch is the place for reference services, including the Ottawa Room, which holds an extensive collection of local historical documents.

*Branch is closed Sundays from June 8 to August 31, 2014.
