Completed Infrastructure Stimulus Fund projects
On June 05, 2009 the federal and provincial governments announced $4.275-million in stimulus funding for five Ottawa Public Library building projects. The total funding for these projects is supported equally between the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government. To qualify for funding, all projects must be completed by March 31, 2011. The Alta Vista, Cumberland, Greely, Sunnyside and Vanier branches have benefitted from this program.
A subsequent allocation in the Fall of 2010 raised the total number of branch projects from five to seven, adding Ruth E. Dickinson and Vernon, and the total amount to $5.425 million.
Alta Vista $0.75 million / January 2011

- Expanded community meeting rooms
- Children’s area renovation
- Self-checkout service
- 24/7 external book returns for the public
- New borrower services counter for faster, more efficient service
- New information services desk
- New accessible washrooms
- New flooring and repainting throughout
Cumberland $0.75 million / June 2010
Key features of this project include:
- New information and children services desks
- Redesigned children’s area including a toddler space
- Expanded public computer area
- Enhanced seating facilities to study, read or plug in your laptop
- Refreshing of Teen Zone
Greely $1.2 million / March 2011
Key features of this project include:
- Branch relocated next to Greely Community Centre
- Increased size of branch by more than three times
- Fully accessible
- Children’s program space and meeting space
- Self-checkout service
Ruth E. Dickinson $0.55 million / Spring 2011
Key features of this project include:
- Moving the Borrower Services counter to the ground floor
- Implementing 24-hour book drops accessible from the exterior of the building
- Adding a new program area
- Upgrading all public washrooms to meet current accessibility standards
Sunnyside $1.275 million / August 2010
Key features of this project include:
- Expansion of public space
- New community meeting rooms
- Children’s programming space
- Children’s area renovation
- Self-checkout service 24/7 external book returns for the public
- New public entranceway
- New borrower services counter for faster, more efficient service
- New public computer area
- New accessible washrooms
- Energy efficient lighting throughout the building
- New flooring and repainting throughout
Vanier $0.75 million / Fall 2010
Key features of this project include:
- Installation of a new elevator to allow access to second floor
- Renovated entranceway to accommodate wheelchairs, strollers Improved borrower services counter
Vernon $150,000 / May 2011
Key features of this project include:
- A reconfigured front entrance that’s compliant with the current building code
- A new barrier-free ramp to allow access directly from the roadside sidewalk
- New lighting at key points along this ramp
- A revitalized veranda
