Meet the Board

Amelita Armit

Amelita ArmitAmelita Armit is an independent public policy professional specializing in governance, public service reform, and in building the capacity of organizations for effective performance. She is the past President and CEO of the Parliamentary Centre, a non-profit organization involved in international democratic development. Amelita has more than thirty years of service in the federal and Alberta provincial governments, including the positions of Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Canada, Assistant Deputy Minister, Alberta Health and Social Services, Vice President, Public Service Commission and Director General, National Transportation Agency.  She received a Bachelor in Business Administration (Economics) from the University of the Philippines and a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.

An active participant in her community and profession, Amelita served as a Board Member of the Institute of Public Administration of Canada 1986-92, Board Governor of Algonquin College 2004-2010, President, Philippine Centre Canada, 1999-02 and founding Director of the Filipino-Canadian Leaders for Leaders Foundation. In recognition of her  contributions,  she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Medal 1977, the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, 1992, the Queen Elizabeth Gold Jubilee Medal 2002  and thePamana Award of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines 2000.

Amelita is excited to be part of the OPL Board and its mission to make our library a vibrant centre for community, information and learning about ourselves and our connections to the world around us.
