Sm@rtLibrary is a partnership of libraries in the National Capital Region that allows you to search partner catalogues with one search engine.

Partners include the Canadian War Museum and the Museum of Civilization, Library and Archives Canada, Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI), Carleton University, University of Ottawa, Algonquin College, Dominican College and Ottawa Public Library.

If you’re interested in using this service, you’ll need a Sm@rtLibrary Card, which is available from any branch of the Otttawa Public Library. You are welcome to search the catalogues of partner libraries but may only borrow directly from the libraries listed in the table below. To obtain items from other partner libraries, you can place an inter-library loan request. Below are answers to frequently asked questions:

Who can borrow? Current OPL cardholders (16+)
Where can I borrow from? University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Algonquin College and Dominican College
What can I borrow? You may borrow up to 4 items. Circulating print materials only, media and reserve room materials may not be borrowed
What is the loan period? 14 days
Can I renew items? Yes
Where do I return materials? Return to the lending library. Do not return to OPL.
How will I be notified of overdue materials? Email notification.
What are the late charges? Consult the lending library for late charges.
Can I access electronic databases? On site access only; no remote access.
