Bestsellers on eBook format

Public libraries have been trying to make these available to their users but major publishers are presently not selling them to public libraries. Only Random House and Harper-Collins currently allow public libraries to buy their latest and greatest through Overdrive and make them available for borrowing purposes. In fact, some publishers do not sell eBooks to libraries at all. As for French-language eBooks, there are currently no mechanisms in place to allow public libraries in Ontario to buy recently-released eBooks with lending rights to patrons from North-American publishers.  If you are concerned about this situation, you may find the following article interesting:

Problems with Overdrive for Ipad

I have sent in an e-mail to OPL, got an acknowldegment but no news. There is a frustrating problem with Ipad version of Overdrive since their last update in mid-Feb!! The program hangs in a screen at the end of the chapter with a 'Loading' message. There is no support or even mention of this problem on the Overdrive web-site. They refer us back to libraries for 'support'. I was a big convert to e-books for the first few months after I got my Ipad but if it takes over a month to fix the only app used by librairies across the continent, then this new e-world is not that great!! Please help OPL, or at least post to let us know that you are working on the problem with Overdrive. Lynne
