Assistive Services

Homebound services

Borrowers who are confined to their homes can arrange to have library staff and volunteers regularly select library materials and deliver them to their door every month. This free bilingual service is available to Ottawa residents of any age who are confined to their home or residence for more than three months because of age, illness, frailty or caregiver responsibilities. Borrowers may also obtain Homebound Services for the winter months only. This is how the program works:

  • Qualified employees select materials from our collection, or homebound clients can request specific titles.
  • Materials are delivered every four weeks, either by library staff or volunteers. The Library delivers to individual homes, continuing care centres, auxiliary hospitals and senior residences.
  • Homebound Services borrowers have extended borrowing privileges, including longer loan periods and exemptions from late item charges.
  • The Library also provides telephone or Internet support for renewals and the requesting of specific titles.
