All major post-migration issues with BiblioCommons including features that were present before back end system migration have now been resolved. We will continue to work through feature enhancement requests through the normal enhancement process. Thanks for all of your patience as this took much longer to resolve than initially anticipated.

How do I list expired holds?
these used to be listed with Fines (since they had a fine of $0.00) tom@abacurial.com
Hi, this feature is actually
Hi, this feature is actually available again starting today.
Start Date Offers More Flexibility
This provides you with the opportunity to schedule your holds suspension in advance. It can provide flexibility in that as soon as you book a vacation you can schedule it to suspend during the period you are away months in advance.
Are You Choosing Today's Date as the Suspension Starting Date
Holds suspension has been working, but you have to ensure that you click on today's date as the holds suspension date in order to start the suspension. Please let us know if this doesn't fix the problem for you.
We Are So Happy!
Thanks for your patience as we worked it out. As heavy library users ourselves we are so glad to see these features returned!
Follow Up
1) We have logged this as an issue with our catalogue provider for future development.
2) You can change the view to list view which strips out the cover art and extraneous information, you can do this by clicking on the button beside the sort options drop down.
3) This is something that BiblioCommons is working on. The back end database system that we have switched to works very differently than the previous one and other libraries with our new back end system and the BC front end do not have access to In transit status, since they aren't used to seeing it. Since we made a back end migration, our patrons are used to seeing it. We have asked them to investigate making it available.
4) This has been resolved.
5) Wondering if you could send me an email with the specific use case on why you want to search by barcode at feedback@biblioottawalibrary.ca. We will try and find another search option for you. We have placed this as an enhancement request with BiblioCommons.
6) RSS Feeds: We are working with our web team to see if we can do this from our website and not within the catalogue.
7) Will log this and get back to you.
Queue Position
You have not lost your place in the queue. If you want to email us your card number at feedback@biblioottawalibrary.ca we can tell you exactly where you are for all of your items. The e book system hasn't changed at all since the migration, but we would be happy to help you with this as well.
Staff Looking Up Hold Queue Position
We will send a reminder to staff how to look up hold queue position. You can also email us at feedback@biblioottawalibrary.ca.
Continued Lack of Hold Queue Position Information
It has been over a month since migration and the display of a person's hold position in the queue for each book requested is STILL not fixed. When one has multiple requests in the system, it is difficult to manage each book's arrival. One also has no idea when one might receive a book - it just suddenly appears. If the information is in the system and I can see my checkout and hold lists now, how difficult can it be to display it like before?
Hold Queue Position & How It Works
In the other back end database system it had a discrete number assigned for each title. For Little Women you could see a distinct 1, 2, 3 with names attached. To pull the hold queue position, they just had to pull this number and display this. The new back end system organizes the hold queue by date/time that the hold was requested. It does not include a number so for every hold this has to be calculated every time this record is pulled up. So, for each title on your holds list, the system has to calculate where you would be ordinally in the list by calculating when you placed the request versus when others placed their hold request and assigning a numerical value to it. OPL has unlimited holds and therefore when patrons with very large hold queues try and pull up their hold lists, it caused a lot of system slow down. We were already running this program before the migration and Edmonton Public Library runs it against our current system so we were a little surprised that we were the first ones to run into this problem. We, unlike other libraries, have unlimited requests so it is a larger problem for us. They are working on optimizing the query and have made some great strides. We just need to make sure that this code works effectively before bringing it in as we don't want to impact the system as a whole. We are library users too and we really miss this feature. We still keep the offer open to help you look up your queue position on specific items by emailing us at feedback@biblioottawalibrary.ca in the mean time so you can manage your account better. I hope this provides you with a more fullsome description of the problem. Please note that the fixing of this issue is a full time occupation for some really smart developers. We thank you for your patience.
Can we have the old system back?
Frankly, my patience has run out with the new system. I think that if you had really taken a close look at the demographics of your core users, you would have discovered that the majority of them 'read books' are are less interested in social networking. Please cut your losses, pay off the software developer and reinstate the old system. I was quite content with the way it worked. It did everything I needed it to do! The new system doesn't.
It's Not Possible to Move Back to the Old System
We cannot move back to the old system as it is not compatible with the new back end system we have installed. We thank you for your patience and we had an update from the vendor last Friday that the main outstanding issue should be resolved in the next few weeks. We would be happy to help orient you to the new system. Please email us any specific questions to feedback@biblioottawalibrary.ca and we would be happy to help orient you to the new system. This system does provide a good basic search and account management system and a enhanced social networking features for those who are interested in taking part in them. It provides a scalable system for those to interact in whatever features they are interested in.
Can we have the old system back?
Logically I know you won't to go back to the old system BUT I agree 100% percent with image542. The new system was made to look pretty but the functionally of the old system has not been duplicated in any way, shape or form. To me when you design a new system it should have new things in it but it should also have most if not all of the old system’s functions. I have about had it with the new system and I am contemplating just walking away from the library all together. I find it takes too long to accomplish portions of what I used to be able to do (and I DON"T MEAN RESPONSE TIME!) and more often than not I can’t accomplish what I want to do at all.
Systems
We can't return to the old system, but would be happy to help orient you to the new system to ensure you can accomplish what you did with the old system. Save the hold queue position, you should be able to manage your account in the same way.
Status of holds
Why are hold items no longer shown as "In Transit" when you have reached the top of the queue? They suddenly just show up as "Ready to Pick-Up". Will the in-transit status be restored once this problem with the hold positions has been resolved? I found this feature helpful to keep track of my library account and my hold items.
Thanks
Sort Options Temporary Limited for those with Over 100 Holds
We have been working with the vendor on improving catalogue speed and one of the issues is our unlimited holds policy. The sorting of suspended holds will be restricted to hold position for those with over 100 holds as a temporary measure. We hope to be able to return this sorting mechanism in the future.
Sort Options
At this point, yes.. that is the only option.
Reserved item not coming
On Monday, I placed a hold on 'Total Knee Replacement and Rehabilitation" to get it at Alta Vista. It showed no holds with copies available (I didn't notice how many). In my hold list, it's still showing as "Not ready for pickup". Normally it would be showing "in transit" by now. Is it stuck or is it just that things really are happening but it's not showing in the status?
France Picard
Your Item
It was just trapped this morning so you can pick it up.
Wow, something happened. 2
Wow, something happened. 2 hours ago, the book was "not ready for pickup". Now it's "ready for pickup".

When we check things in and your turn has come for holds pick up this will change on your account. It will automatically update.
Privilege Has Expired
This means that your card has expired and you will need to renew it at your local branch. We are updating the messaging to say "Card has Expired" to ensure it is clearer.
Requests and Hold Position #1
This is a result of the hold queue position being turned off right now. In the back end system, it is queuing up your holds by date placed behind those who have placed these holds ahead of you. The position number has been turned off so you don't see this until the restoration of the hold queue placement number has been restored by the system.
Requests and Hold Position
When will the hold queue be restored? I wish tax-payers' money was spent on a better system supplied by a vendor with proven records. I just don't understand how the present system is an improvement over the previous system.
All that noise
I'm another who wants to be able to turn off the noise. I don't want to share my reading with several thousand of my closest friends. Like a previous poster, I want to be able to search, place a hold, see my place in queue, and receive notifications. No shared lists. No shared reviews. If people want to share their innermost thoughts, let them do it on Facebook or Twitter.
Your Response
The new catalogue provides you with the opportunity to interact with your account in the same way as the other catalogue to do the things you want to do (at this point with the exception of queue position). It provides users with the ability to choose what types of activities that they would like to participate in, and provides enhanced features for those who would like to have the enhanced catalogue access.
DVDs Non Requestable - Not Related to Catalogue Update
The fact that Avatar or new feature film DVDs are non-requestable is not related to the catalogue.. it is a result of a library policy to put all feature film DVDs in the Express collection for the first six months of release. For more information on this, please access our website http://biblioottawalibrary.ca/main/about/comm/promo/all/dvd. They have to be shown as they are available in the library and the availability link shows people where they are so they can go to the nearest branch and pick them up as required. The catalogue services both in library patrons to show them what's on the shelf and remote patrons to allow them to order and manage their accounts remotely.
Performance
The performance will be improved by enhancements being made by the vendor. We will return this catalogue to its quick response times we had before the back end migration. There is a wide divergence in requirements for the catalogue and this one will provide the choice for extended social networking features for those who are interested and basic catalogue functionality for those that do not. We thanks for your patience.
Unsuspension an item
There is an item on my suspended list but the Suspension Starts and Suspension Ends fields are not displayed. The other items on my list show the two fields. How do I unsuspend the item or change the suspension end date?
Suspension
To unsuspend you click the edit button beside the Suspension Ends field which will bring up a calendar. You enter tomorrow's date and it will unsuspend the item overnight. If there is not a date showing up in the field, please email your specific information including your card number to feedback@biblioottawalibrary.ca so that we can thoroughly investigate your case.
It actually does put the list
It actually does put the items back into the system the next day - it depends upon when the reactivation was done if the online catalogue displays this. It is active in the system and progressing through the queue. We agree that this is one of the features of the new back end integrated library system that isn't as straight forward as the old one.
Suspended Items
In every case I have seen that in it is that the holds have been unsuspended on the back end database system and this change has not been reflected in the online catalogue as the data synching has occurred since the hold has been unsuspended. In this case, they will show up on your active holds list tomorrow. If this is still not the case email us with your barcode at feedback@biblioottawalibrary.ca and we will some further investigation for you.
HOLD STATUS POSITION
I'd also likie an answer to the question asked above. I have several books on hold which I know put me at, or close to, the top of wait lists several weeks ago and I have since received no notification and am still waiting. Please can you give us an answer.
Hold Position
You will receive notification when you reach the top of the queue. If there are specific items you would like to know your queue position number you can email as a feedback@biblioottawalibrary.ca with the title and your barcode and we can have a look on the back end system for you.
Hold Status Position
The books you have requested are still working their way through the system and you will be notified via email or phone when you reach the top of the queue, depending upon your notification preference.
