Completed Infrastructure Stimulus Fund projectsSummary
Renovations and Replacements On June 05, 2009 the federal and provincial governments announced $4.275-million in stimulus funding for five Ottawa Public Library building projects. The total funding for these projects is supported equally between the federal, provincial and municipal levels of government. To qualify for funding, all projects must be completed by March 31, 2011. The Alta Vista, Cumberland, Greely, Sunnyside and Vanier branches have benefitted from this program. A subsequent allocation in the Fall of 2010 raised the total number of branch projects from five to seven, adding Ruth E. Dickinson and Vernon, and the total amount to $5.425 million. Future New Branches The need for future branches is planned as a result of examining current and projected growth throughout the City of Ottawa every 4 years. Recently, the west end of the city has been recognized as a top priority for a new library facility. Planning is currently underway for a 30,000 Sq. ft. district library to be built in the Kanata area by late 2013/early 2014.This future branch is tentatively being called the West District Library.
