On Thursday, May 25th, à la carte, the Ottawa Public Library’s food literacy project, teams up with the Ottawa International Writers Festival to host an author and food literacy event at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum:

  • à la carte: The Food on Your Plate with Sarah Elton and David Waltner-Toews

Join Sarah Elton, the award-winning author of Meatless? A Fresh Look at What You Eat for a conversation on our relationship with the food on our plates. Sarah is a former CBC food columnist and author of Locavore: From Farmer’s Fields to Rooftop Gardens and Consumed: Food for a Finite Planet. She has written for many publications including Maclean’s Magazine, The Globe and Mail, The New York Times and more.

Meet David Waltner-Toews, award-winning author of Eat the Beetles! An Exploration of Our Conflicted Relationship with Insects and a veterinarian-epidemiologist specializing in ecosystem approaches to health and disease as he examines the cultural, ecological and evolutionary history of entomophagy. Previous books include Food, Sex and Salmonella, The Chickens Fight Back and The Origin of Feces.

As part of the à la carte food literacy project we will also be giving away a tomato plant seedling at the end of the event to each attendee.
