2019 Teen Advisory Group Art Contest

Information 

 

The Teen Advisory Group (TAG) at the Ruth E. Dickinson branch of the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is holding its sixth annual art contest. TAG members, ages 14-18, help OPL plan for activities and services that are offered to teens, earn community involvement hours and build leadership skills.

 

Contest guidelines

  • The contest is open to teens ages 12-18.
  • Participants must have an OPL card.
  • For art pieces:
    • It must be the teen’s original work.
    • It can be a maximum of 36 x 24 inches, and it must be ready for mounting.
    • Participants can use any usual art medium, including oils, acrylics, pastels, pencil, charcoal, etc.
    • Participants can use any surface, including stretched canvas, art paper, card, linen, etc.
  • For photographs:
    • It must be the teen’s original work.
    • Participants may not use pre-made graphics for their entry, i.e. they may not use graphic software to produce their entry.
    • Participants may use programs such as Photoshop to edit a photograph they have taken themselves.
    • The photograph may be in colour, sepia, or black and white.
    • The photograph must be a minimum of 8 x 10 inches in size.
    • The photograph must be matted and ready for hanging. The frame can be a maximum of 36 x 24 inches.
  • For music compositions:
    • It must be the teen’s original work.  It cannot be a cover, remix, mash-up or remake of any kind.
    • All genres of music are considered.  It can be vocal or/and instrumental.
    • Participants can use music editing software and their provided features.  Please feel free to use the Ruth E. Dickinson’s music editing stations.
    • The song can be a maximum of 4 minutes long.

Submitting work

  • Participants must fill out the submission form (one per item).  Submission forms are available at the Ruth E. Dickinson branch (100 Malvern Dr.)
  • Art pieces and photographs must be submitted in person along with the submission form to the
    Ruth E. Dickinson branch (100 Malvern Dr.) by Wednesday, August 14 at 5:00 pm.
  • Musical pieces must be uploaded to Dropbox via mp3 format and the link sent to Tammy Hurst at tammy.hurst@BiblioOttawaLibrary.ca along with the submission form by Wednesday, August 14 at 5:00 pm.
  • All eligible art will be exhibited during a vernissage on Saturday, August 24th, from 2:30 until 3:30 pm.

Winners

  • The top art pieces and photographs will be displayed in the Ruth E. Dickinson branch Teen Zone for six months, along with the artist’s name and the title of the work.  Music compositions will be played during the vernissage.
  • Winners will be announced during the vernissage.
