7 Generations by David Robertson --- Graphic Novel Series - Teen Book Review

13/04/2017

David Robertson's 7 Generations is an excellent Canadian teen graphic novel series.

Robertson's illustrates an honest portrayal of a young Cree man learning about his family's hardship from the past in order to move forward with his own future. The first volume Stone introduces Edwin, a teen who is on fighting to overcome grief, addiction, and suicidal thoughts while beginning to learn about his ancestry. The second volume Scars follows Edwin exercising his courage by confronting his source for despair, his own father. The third volume Ends/Begins examines Edwin’s father and his personal experiences with residential schools. The final volume of this series, The Pact explores how Edwin and his father settle their past in order to begin a new journey together. Redemption and reconciliation are the foundations for both Edwin and his father in order to begin a new journey together.

A very heartfelt, touching, and powerful illustration of how a young man and his father both have to face their distresses in order to move forward in a positive direction. I give this four volume series 5 out of 5 stars! Enjoy!
