Activities with the letter C

03/04/2020

Hi, everyone! Here are some fun low-tech activities for your family to try together at home. Perhaps you can include this list of activities in your morning routine, or in your afternoon routine following nap time. Please note that we are compiling family literacy ideas for each letter of the alphabet -meaning that you'll have 26 days worth of songs, yoga postures, tongue twisters and more to have fun with! Enjoy :)

Let's learn our National Anthem in both official languages : Oh Canada

* Click on the language option in the top left corner to see the equivalent French version

O Canada!

Our home and native land!

True patriot love, in all of us command.

With glowing hearts we see Thee rise,

The True North strong and free!

From far and wide,

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God, keep our land glorious and free!

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

Circle / Triangle Challenge

Get two pencils or use your fingers. Draw a circle with your right hand while simultaneously drawing a triangle with your left hand (it's harder than you think!)

Cat and Cow Yoga Stretch

Many yoga poses are in the shapes of animals or objects.

Always warm up. Wiggle your arms and legs, your fingers and toes, from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Make faces and have fun!

Start in Table Pose on the carpet, or a towel or a yoga mat, if you have one. You may modify and sit a chair, if the floor is unaccessible

In table pose you are on your hands and knees, with your knees bent and down, arms straight with your hands under your shoulders, and your knees under your hips. Your back should be flat and parallel with the floor.

Cat Pose

From table pose move your chin to your chest, round your back and tuck your tail while pushing your hands into the floor. Make cat noises. Be a cat.

Cow Pose

From table pose let your belly hang, arch your back, lift your chin up and look up and stick your tail up in the air. Keep pressing your hands into the floor. Make cow noises. Be a cow.

Cat / Cow

Start in table pose and move between cat and cow. This should feel really good.

Meow Moo Meow Moo round your back and arch your back.

Cat /Cow in a chair - sit up tall. Place your hands on your knees and move between stretching forward and back. Exaggerate the movement.

Alice the Camel

Sing along to this version that counts down from ten to zero!

Alice the camel has five humps

Alice the camel has five humps

Alice the cam has five humps

So, go Alice, go!

Alice the camel has four humps...

Alice the camel has three humps...

Alice the camel has two humps

Alice the camel has one hump...

Alice the camel has no hump...

Alice is a horse!

Tongue Twister

Can you can a can as a canner can can a can?
