Activities with the Letter X
Hi, everyone! Here are some fun low-tech activities for your family to try together at home. Perhaps you can include this list of activities in your morning routine, or in your afternoon routine following nap time. Please note that we are compiling family literacy ideas for each letter of the alphabet -meaning that you'll have 26 days worth of songs, yoga postures, tongue twisters and more to have fun with! Enjoy :)
Fact of the day
Did you know that X is a roman numeral and stands for number “ten” (10)?
Can you complete the following mysterious words? Those are words that finish with “X”.
Sit down and _ _ _ _x. You can write a letter or a postcard to someone, add a stamp on it and then put it in the _ _ _ _ _ _x. Or maybe you can chat with a friend... is your friend like this book character : Sophie the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _x?

Visit the list of dinosaurs on the website of the British Natural History Museum. Can you find a dinosaur name that ends with “X”? But not just any of them...the one that has a mouth shape similar to that of a crocodile. And it is not the Tyrannosaurus Rex! (here is the answer)
For Harry Potter fans
What is the name of the magical bird associated with fire and the sun, which appears in the Harry Potter stories and in the title of the fifth volume? Its name ends with “X”... you’re right, it’s the phoenix!
- In the Marvel Comics books : Mister X is the villain.
- In the Shaun the sheep movie : after the farmer receives a blow to the head, he is taken to the hospital and diagnosed with amnesia. He then goes into town, wanders into a hair salon and, acting on a vague recollection of shearing his sheep, cuts a celebrity’s hair. The celebrity loves the result so much that he names him “Mr.X” the hair stylist!
- In the Scotland Yard board game : Mr. X is a player character who tries to escape his capturers by taxi, bus and underground in London, UK. There is also a New York City version of this game.

Tic-tac-toe (or X’s and O’s)
The tic tac toe game requires two players, a sheet of paper, a pencil or pen (or a chalkboard). One player draws “X” and the other draws “O”. Whoever makes a line of 3 first, wins! Here is a free printable version of the game.
SpaceX / NASA
Did you get to watch the SpaceX flight to the International Space Station on May 31st, 2020? If not, no worries! It was filmed and can be watched here. A second flight is planned for October.
