Thinking about starting your family tree? Wondering what those DNA tests really tell you? Want to hear some great stories of Ottawa’s past? Discover Your Roots: Genealogy and Local History Fair has something for you!
Discover Your Roots is a free, all-day event featuring presentations, displays by community organizations, and genealogy specialists to answer your questions!
The morning will be filled with genealogy presentations on starting your family history, DNA testing, building and sharing your family tree, and more. In the afternoon, David McGee, founder of the wildly popular Lost Ottawa site, will regale us with tales of Ottawa landmarks that are no more.
Throughout the day, you can also visit displays from local museums, historical and genealogy societies; or bring your questions to the genealogy specialists in the Resource Room.
Discover Your Roots takes place Saturday, April 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Ben Franklin Place, 101 Centrepointe Drive, and is sponsored by OPL in partnership with the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO).
