It is no secret that books are our life blood here at OPL and this is clearly true for the more than 300,000 cardholders who borrowed nearly 12 million items last year.  Excellent, personal customer service is a priority we know all too well so we have a new service for book lovers: reading recommendations tailored to your blood type. Based on the principle that reading is in our veins and everyone can expand their knowledge and humanity through reading a variety of genres, OPL is hoping its blood type book lists will enrich the reading diet of customers and nourish the hearts and minds of Ottawa residents.

Some studies suggest that there is a statistically significant relationship between blood type and personality, and OPL staff have put together inspired reading lists for each of the four main blood types: A, B, AB, O. According to the blood-type personality theory, a person with Type A blood tends to be warm, reserved, sensible, patient, responsible, perfectionist, and cautious and might enjoy On a Sunbeam by Tillie Walden. On the negative side, those with Type A can be obsessive, stubborn, inconsiderate, and intemperate so one of the Library’s recommendations is Firestarter by Tara Sim.

The most common blood type in Canada is O+, which is associated with personality traits such as confidence, ambition, intuition, and willfulness; and one of the book suggestions for this group is Objections! The Ultimate Guide for Mastering the Art and Science of Getting Past No by Jeb Blount.

Type AB is the least common in Canada and linked to positive traits such as calmness, rationality, and adaptability, but also negative traits such as indecision, aloofness, and being hypercritical. Reading suggestions for this blood type include: How to Disappear: Notes on Invisibility by Akiko Busch, Personality Hacker by Witt Dodge, and F*ck That: An Honest Meditation by Jason Headley.

Like blood, books are thicker than water, and OPL has the books and resources you need to stay strong and happy. Enjoy!
