Bike to the library

May in Ottawa has been officially adopted as Bike to Work Month.  Staff at the Main branch have once again formed an enthusiastic team committed to cycling to the branch or “running” other errands on two wheels.  With just over a week to go in the challenge, we have collectively logged over 1700km!

Having your bike tuned up in May and getting on the road is a great way to enjoy the city by bike this summer.  We are very fortunate in the nation’s capital to have an abundance of cycling paths.  The Main branch at 120 Metcalfe is conveniently located along Ottawa’s first segregated bike lane along Laurier and has an abundance of bike parking next to our book drop.  The City of Ottawa will be adding its second segregated bike lane along O’Connor later this summer, making cycling to the library even easier!

If you can’t make it to the branch by bike, don’t worry.  Staff at Main are working on a special project to take library services on the road!  More details about the awesome initiative will be coming soon, just as soon as it’s up and rolling...  In the meantime, check out these picture books about the joy of riding bikes.
