Black History Month at the Ottawa Public Library

30/01/2020

Every February, Canadians are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of Black Canadians, past and present. This year, OPL invites you to celebrate by attending our upcoming Black History Month events and by exploring our reading lists for all ages

At Nepean Centrepointe branch on Sunday, February 9th at 2:00pm, join us for a family storytelling program with Black History Ottawa, “Children’s Stories of the Diaspora”.

On Tuesday, February 11th at 7:00 pm is the SOLD OUT Book Launch: The Skin We're In with Desmond Cole at Library and Archives Canada. Last minute RUSH tickets will be available at the DOOR. Presented jointly by the Ottawa Public Library, Library and Archives Canada, and the Ottawa International Writers Festival, this event will launch a bracing, provocative and perspective-shifting book from one of Canada's most celebrated and uncompromising writers. The Skin We're In promises to spark a national conversation, influence policy and inspire activists.

All year long we honour, celebrate, and learn about Black heritage with our OPL collections. This Black history Month discover - or rediscovering the legacy and diverse cultures of Black Canadians through our curated reading lists for all ages.
