Capital Pride: Inclusive. Positive. Open. --- LGTBQ+ Juvenile, Teen, & Adult Books Lists

"We're going to continue to work hard and push the limits of what other countries are doing because we have to get the message across that LGBT rights are human rights that have to be respected" said Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Saturday August 13th 2016 at Montreal Pride Parade (CBC: 2016). Justin Trudeau has also marched in the Vancouver and Toronto Pride parades earlier this year. Ottawa Capital Pride takes place this year from Monday August 15th 2016 to Sunday August 21st 2016. The mission of the Ottawa Capital Pride organization is to create an environment for advocacy, education, and the fostering of a strong and vibrant Rainbow Community within the Nation’s Capital region.

Here at the Ottawa Public Library, we will be celebrating Ottawa Capital Pride by taking part in the in numerous local Pride events in the downtown core region. We will be running two Capital Pride Storytimes (an English Storytime on Wed. August 17th 2016 at Hintonburg Park at 5:00pm as well as one bilingual Conte en Famillle storytime on Sun. August 21st at 4:30pm at the Bank Street Pride Events). Also, come and visit the OPL Bikemobile during the Capital Pride Community Fair on Sun. August 21st 2016 from 2-7pm! Ottawa Public Library and it's Bookmobile will also be in the Pride Parade on Sunday August 21st between 1-4pm! While in the parade OPL staff members will be handing out OPL swag. It's going to be a fun and busy RAINBOW week! :) If you're unable to make it out to one of the Capital Pride events but want to show some pride, why don't you borrow some of our LGTBQ+ themed titles from our library collection? Love is Love! Enjoy!
