This month of June marks the 34th annual province-wide Seniors’ Month celebration, an opportunity to celebrate and honour the contributions older adults make to our communities. 


This year’s theme is “Now’s the time to start something new”. Why not meet new people and rediscover your local Ottawa Public Library branch, its programs, its collections and so much more?

  • Save your mind: Seven rules for Preventing Dementia

Prominent Ottawa neurologist Dr. Antoine Hakim wants to keep you sharp. Dr. Hakim explains several factors that contribute to the damage suffered by the brain such as vascular conditions, poor diet, and a sedentary lifestyle. He also debunks certain myths and addresses questions many of us have surrounding the maintenance of our mental vitality.

  • Introduction to Gouache

Visual artist Véronique will introduce participants to gouache paint, leading them through exercises on how to paint uniform backgrounds, gradations and 'dark on light' painting. While focusing on a round shape, participants will learn shading techniques which they will use to produce a final painting.

  • Stress Relief

This workshop offers a variety of techniques designed to protect your bones, muscles, and joints, within a context that nurtures the whole person. The workshop will look at  alignment and breath, with how you sit, stand and walk, with the aim helping you develop a level of ease and comfort in your body as you move through your day.

"Let Us Consider the Vast Finiteness of Words”. Often, writers get stuck in their own patterns of speech and writing: a restricted diction, cadence, or tone. The exercises in this workshop involve expanding our understanding of how syllables actually work in a poem.
