Step 1: Contactless services inside most open branches

There are contactless services inside most of our 31 open branches, with strict capacity limits in place, as of June 14, 2021, except at Metcalfe Village, Orléans and Rosemount. This means:

  • Pick up holds and check them out at self-checkout stations.
  • Return borrowed items to book drops anytime.
  • Access to PCs, Chromebooks, and printing, where these are available.
  • No other services: no browsing, no washroom access.
  • Mask-wearing remains mandatory inside, and outside in line.

Christmas in July – New items are here!

shelf of new books

It is wonderful to see all the shiny new library items coming inand doubly exciting now that holds can be placed on them. We are hard at work getting everything into the system magazines, DVDs, books for all ages (including beautiful picture books!) and tastes (the most gorgeous cookbooks you can imagine), video games to mention only a few of the hundreds of new items added to the OPL collection.

I don’t know about you, but I have been waiting to request a few titles, especially one by an author I follow who is finally releasing new books after a six-year hiatus. The books are still not released from the publisher yet, but my name is now on the list!

To find out what titles we have ordered, you can click on “Browseon the homepage menu, then “New Titles” in the Explore column on the left. There, you can pick new reads from the covers featured on screen or scroll down for more precision in what you would like to read. So, you can pick one of the freshest Teen novels, browse the Non-Fiction offerings, and then see what new picture books have been added to the collection. Most Fiction in Adult, Teen and Children as well as Non-Fiction in the Adult category have been subdivided into “Just Arrived” and “On Order”. If you are looking for new books the Library has right now, “Just Arrived” is the section you want to browse as “On Order” is for future releases Since everyone is currently limited to 20 holds (in order to manage the flow now that there is no browsing the physical shelves) anything you request that is on order will take up a spot, so keep this in mind. You can always keep track of future releases on your “For Later Shelf” and activate the hold at a time when you are ready.

New books – it's like Christmas in July, or an un-birthday but much, much better!!
