Thinking about starting your family tree, or researching the history of your house?  Wondering what those DNA matches actually mean?  Discover Your Roots: Genealogy and Local History Fair has something for you!

Discover Your Roots is a free, all-day event featuring presentations, displays by community organizations, and genealogy specialists to answer your questions.

Keep up to date with research resources, both physical and virtual, find out more about DNA tests, and learn how to research properties too!

Research in Archives, Libraries, Historical Societies, with representatives from Library and Archives Canada, OPL, and BIFHSGO,  will start off the morning at 10:00 a.m.

Have you taken a DNA test?  Leanne Cooper shows you how to manage results in her talk DNA: What do the matches mean? at 11:00 am.

In the afternoon, Gail Dever, author of the popular blog Genealogy à la carte, will reveal Free Online Resources for the Frugal Genealogist (and isn't that all of us?), at 1:00 p.m.

The day will close with a topic of interest to genealogists and historians alike, House History: Researching Your Building or Property, by Stuart Clarkson, Archivist, City of Ottawa Archives, at 2:00 p.m.

Throughout the day, you can also visit displays from local museums, historical and genealogical societies; or bring your questions to the genealogy specialists from OPL and BIFHSGO in the Resource Rooms.

Discover Your Roots takes place Saturday, April 27, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Ben Franklin Place, 101 Centrepointe Drive, and is sponsored by OPL in partnership with the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO).

All presentations in English.  French questions welcome.
