Congratulations to Michelle Good for her 2022 Canada Reads win. After four days of discussions and debates, the Canada Reads panelists have crowned Five Little Indians by Michelle Good as the winner!

Christian Allaire, the fashion writer from Nipissing First Nation, defended the story of five residential school survivors as the book to connect us all.  “It’s about us coming together as a country to acknowledge this happened and helping us move forward altogether," Allaire said during the final arguments.  He spoke of his grandmother, a residential school survivor, and the devastating trauma endured by her and so many Indigenous Peoples in Canada. Five Little Indians becomes the book for all Canadians to read determined in the same week that an Inuit, Métis and First Nations delegation went to Rome to ask for a papal apology for the devastation and intergenerational trauma of the residential school legacy.  Amongst the special gifts they presented to the Pope was literature – hopefully including a copy of the Canada Reads 2022 champion, Five Little Indians!

We send our congratulations to all top 5 books that were shortlisted for Canada Reads 2022. All five books presented for the Canada Reads debate are available in OPL's collection for you to borrow.
