Who exactly was Pierre Elliott Trudeau?  Although he's been dead for nearly 17 years, this is a topic which continues to interest us.  The Great Canadian Theatre Company is presently showing the one woman show Trudeau Stories written and acted by Brooke Johnson who tells us the story of  her unusual friendship with the former prime minister.  She met Trudeau when she was 23 and he was 65, a year and a half after he left office.  They shared a love for outdoor sports, poetry and the theatre (she was a second year student at the National Theatre School in Montreal) and maintained a  friendship until he died 15 years later. This touching and funny story  has a lot to say about the nature of friendship and the private persona of a very public man. The play opened to a sold out audience at the Great Canadian Theatre Company on January 12 and will continue at the GCTC until January 29th.  Tickets are still available.
