photo of Douglas Gibson

Douglas Gibson is one of Canada’s best-known and respected publishers.  In his illustrious career, culminating as President of McClelland and Stewart, he has edited many of our greatest authors.  And beyond that, Doug is also a writer and raconteur par excellence!

In partnership with The Scottish Society of Ottawa, OPL is excited to present Douglas Gibson’s  new show: GREAT SCOTS: Canadian Fiction writers with Links to Scotland, from 1867 to Today.  This 65-minute show will take us through Canadian history, discussing the authors against their historic background.  Among the Great Scot authors are predictable names like MacLennan, MacLeod, and Munro, but also some that will surprise you.  Gallant and Aubert de Gaspé – who knew?

GREAT SCOTS will be an entertaining and informative evening, sure to delight whether you are a CanLit lover, history buff, or proud Scot!  Join us Monday, January 21, at 7 p.m. in the beautiful Arts Court Theatre, 2 Daly Ave.  Registration:  GREAT SCOTS: Canadian Fiction Writers with Links to Scotland, from 1867 to Today.

See the list below for a sneak peek at the works to be discussed.  We guarantee Doug will inspire you to read them all!
