Managing Your Library Account Over the Holidays

December is a busy month for many! Juggling holiday preparations, social engagements, and travelling to see friends or family, it is easy to forget a library due date. Here are a few tips to help manage your account and holds remotely over the holiday period.

Know your due dates

The Library sends out automated courtesy reminders by email 3 days before items are coming due. Stay ahead of the game by tracking your due dates directly online through your OPL online account. OPL staff are also happy to check your due dates with you over the phone at 613-580-2940.

Renew Your Items Ahead of Time

Not finished with the items you've borrowed? Renew your items before they are due back to avoid late fees. Be sure to try to renew ahead of time; some items cannot be renewed due to the type of item borrowed, or the number of people waiting to borrow the item. Items can be renewed online; on the phone through our automated TeleCirc line 613-580-2535; or with OPL staff during opening hours at 613-580-2940.

Manage Your Library Holds

A $1 fee is incurred when your available hold or Interlibrary loan is not picked up or cancelled before it expires. Avoid expired hold fees by managing your holds this Holiday season. If you or your children have placed holds on library items, you can check your place on the waiting list before leaving for the holidays to ensure you do not miss your opportunity to pick up your item. You can pause your hold or cancel your hold directly online or by calling InfoService line at 613-580-2940 during opening hours.

Tip: when pausing many holds at once, you may stagger hold resume dates to avoid too many arriving at the same time once the holds are active again.
