We have an unusual mix for this month's Artist of the Month for the Manotick Branch: glass and watercolour. Nancy Burke, a long-time member of the Manotick Art Association and Glebe Fine Arts Association, has expressed her talents primarily through the use of glass as a medium. Recently, she has turned to more traditional painting (in this exhibit, watercolour) to extend her repertoire.
The rest of the story is expressed in her own words:
"In recent years [my] path has become more ‘painterly’ in approach via drawing upon earlier studies in Chinese Brush Printing coupled with increasing focus on watercolour, drawing, print-marking and other art forms.
"At the root of [my] signature work is her over-riding enthusiasm for exploration and experimentation which have become hallmarks.
"Influences for [my] glass art, whether sculptural, functional, hanging or whimsical, are quite simply life’s magnificent experiences
and chance adventures and being blessed with numerous, fantastic learning opportunities with many incredible teachers; both international
and home-grown. Influences for [my] watercolours are drawn from the same well so stay tuned.
"Nancy’s glass art resides in private collections in Canada, USA, Ireland, South Africa and beautiful Bavaria."
