04/05/2017

As we roll into May, OPL’s celebration of Canada 150 turns to storytelling through theatre, cinema and popular media. Celebrate May 2017 by reading a new graphic novel, rediscovering a classic movie or going to the theatre.

Come meet the artists behind the stories, at our Comics in Conversation event on Saturday, May 6th at the Ruth E. Dickinson branch. This event is open to the general public. No matter your age or tastes, there’s sure to be something for everyone. Teens are invited to take part in an Illustration Workshop with Josephine Rioux.

Visit us at our mini bookmobile inside the exhibition hall at Ottawa Comiccon from Friday, May 12th- Sunday, May 14th. Have your photo taken in front of the green screen!

Children are invited to Storytelling through the theatre programs at the St-Laurent branch on Thursday, May 11th and at the Elmvale Acres branch on Saturday, May 13th, where there will be stories and crafts. On Thursday, May 18th, the Cumberland branch is hosting a storytime, with books that have been turned into films!

On Wednesday, May 17th, the Main branch will host a collective reading and discussion of Susan Sontag's On Photography, offered in partnership with Ottawa Art Gallery.

The Carlingwood branch will host their Film Club for adults on Thursday, May 25th, with a documentary, Murder of Crows. Watch and discuss a good film in a relaxed, book-club-style chat about film and cinematography.

Adults 50+ can take part in Animation Workshops for Seniors at Carp branch. In this 6-session series, that starts on Thursday, May 11th, artist Tina Le Moine will assist participants to animate short selections of writing by using a collage of images captured with easy-to-use iPad set-ups.

The OPL Canada 150 webpage offers the complete list of programs and activities offered this May to highlight Canada’s 150th birthday.  Don’t forget to register for the program when it is required!
