Each school board produced a tree sculpture from which the winning poems have been displayed as paper maple leaves. The PoeTree sculptures will be on display at the Beaverbrook, Alta Vista, North Gloucester and Main branches until May 20 and then at the Inspiration Village in the Byward market from the end of May to September 4 .

On Monday, May 1 at 6:30 pm at the Main branch, join us and the Mayor for a culminating celebration of this poetry contest, with a bilingual all ages evening of poetry with Mehdi Cayenne, Urban Legends Poetry Collective’s Youth Speak and students from all four Ottawa school boards.

Mehdi  is a songwriter, musician, poet and actor who has been performing across Canada since 2007. He will perform selections of his spoken word poetry in both English and French and he will be our MC for the evening.

After the ceremony, the Urban Legends Poetry Collective’s Youth Speak Mentorship members (the youth and their facilitators) have been busy preparing a spoken word showcase with the theme of Letters to Myself (in English).

We hope to see you there!
