Online Music Lessons for the library customers

Great news! The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) has expanded its Music Instrument Lending Library to two new branches. Now you can not only borrow music instruments from the Main and Nepean Centrepointe branches, but also from the Cumberland and Greenboro branches.

Whether you’re just starting out or interested in improving your skills, you’ll find many useful resources at your library.

In addition to the comprehensive music print , CD and DVD collections, here are three online music lesson resources for you:

  1. OPL has subscribed ArtistWorks for online music lessons since 2017. This is a hidden gem and most library customers haven’t yet discovered it. We hope that you can take advantages of these world-class, self-paced video lessons from accomplished Grammy Award winning professors.

Lessons and highlighted features include:

  • Step-by-step instructions for most popular string and band instruments such as guitar, violin, mandolin, ukulele, and percussion and drums
  • Vocal lessons
  • Music theory
  • Beginner to advanced levels
  • Suitable for children, youth and adults
  • Free remote access anytime, anywhere
  • Available from desktop, laptop and mobile devices

Note: Even though the service is called “ArtistWorks”, art lessons were removed by the publisher due to a lack of use, and the focus now is only on music lessons.

  1. Online music lessons such as ukulele, guitar, piano, and vocal lessons are also available from our popular database

When you ready to learn how to record music and make an album, expert-led tutorials on will show you how to record and mix songs, make beats, and use popular music production and sound engineering software like Avid Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live, and more.
