The OPL 50+ Short Story Contest Returns!

Concours de nouvelles 50ans+
05/05/2016

The Ottawa Public Library is hosting its third annual Short Story Contest for older adults this month. If you are 50 years or older and have a valid Library card, you may submit a maximum of two short stories in either English or French.

Stories must be original, unpublished works of 2000 words or less in length. They will be judged by a jury of local authors on the following criteria: characterization, plot, setting and atmosphere, narrative voice, and mechanics. For instruction and inspiration, you may wish to check out the various resources that the Library provides on short story and creative writing.

Submissions will be accepted until 11:59 p.m. on May 31, 2016. Contest winners will be notified by e-mail or by phone by June 30, 2016.

The winning authors will share a cash prize, to be presented at our “An Afternoon of Storytelling” event on September 14, 2016, during which these authors will read from their stories.
