The Ottawa Public Library (OPL) is the first public library in Canada to offer Express eBook loans. Starting today, OPL is pioneering a new option for library customers to borrow the latest and most popular English-language eBooks for a loan period of seven days. This new offering gives customers a swift and easy way to access popular and bestselling works of fiction and non-fiction at their fingertips.
“OPL is happy to be leading the way for Canadian readers with the new Express eBooks service, which will allow library customers to discover new authors and enjoy their favourite genres in a fast, efficient, and novel way,” said Tim Tierney, Chair of the Ottawa Public Library Board and Councillor for Beacon Hill-Cyrville.
With a shorter loan period and a no-holds policy, Express items help OPL optimize its collection, catering to fast readers. Until today, English-language Express books were only available in print. OPL customers can now access this new express eBooks service through the “cloudLibrary” app by Bibliotheca, a library solutions company and supplier to OPL. This frees up more books, both print and electronic, for regular three-week loans to meet the reading needs of various customers. Regular eBook items will continue to be available through Overdrive.
With eBooks growing in popularity, the new Express eBooks option connects readers to the books they love and want. Easy-to-use and compatible with most devices (including PC, Mac, Android, iOS, and Kobo Readers) through the cloudLibrary app, the new Express eBook collection is available to all customers with a valid OPL card.
