Ottawa Local Music at the OPL

Just letting you all in on some Local Music purchases I made in the fall.  I took a trip down to Compact Music and got some fantastic recommendations from the owner Ian Boyd.  If you get a chance and want to know anything "Local Music" pop into his Bank Street location for a chat -- he is a true aficionado!  I am especially excited about the Dustbowl Daddies as I like eclectic and a little indie.  They have been described as a cross between Mumford & Sons and the Pogues -- you be the judge!  If you're looking for Country try John Allaire or Cee Lawrence.  More interested in Jazz?  ECV.  Blues?  Manx Marriner Mainline or Murray Kinsley.  Celtic?  Try Allison Lupton or Tradhead by Graham Lindsey. Ottawa really has it all and you can check it out from the Ottawa Public Library.

"The Afro-Métis Nation consists of folks of African descent whose forebears include Indigenous and/or Métis people (and sometimes Europeans too). However, our often obvious (proud) blackness has led some folks to pretend that we don't exist. Well, we do. Those of us from the Maritimes are glad to claim all the local musics as our own, for we've grown up singing the songs and playing the instruments (including banjo and spoons, mandolin and trumpet). Our Celtic is mixed with Acadian; our Indigenous drums with African. We croon County & Western right along with Rhythm & Blues; we belt out Spirituals with the same gusto that we grant anthems. Our album, Constitution, is our musical manifesto of our existence. Be it resolved that you will hear us and vote Yes/Oui!"--
