Gates of Thread and Stone – Lori M. Lee

Kai has the power to slow down time, not fully stop it, but she is the only person besides the king who has magic and that makes things very dangerous. But when her brother goes missing she’ll do anything to save him, even if that means using her power and starting a revolution. Here you’ll encounter immortal beings, love that lasts beyond death, and the mystery that surrounds Kai's power to control time. This one is a slow burn, the best kind. I couldn't wait to find out who Kai's parents were, what had really happened to her brother, and how she ended up with her powers and no memory of her past.

Red Queen – Victoria Aveyard

Fan girl moment: I finally got my hands on a copy of the book everyone has been talking about and proceeded to read it a lightening speeds!

Tired of waiting for the revolution to start? You don’t have to wait until a later book with Red Queen, the revolution starts now. This book is full of some very dangerous royals, superhuman abilities, rebels, and battles. I didn’t know who to trust, all of my assumptions about a certain prince were wrong, and the ending was fantastic and totally unpredictable. The only thing better than entering a new fantasy world, full of new superhuman powers, is having all of the action happen in a palace where you can't trust anyone.
