Regular hours resumed Sept. 7, 2021

Ottawa Public Library has returned to regular pre-pandemic hours at most branches as of September 7, 2021 — including Sunday hours at 10 branches and InfoService. Hours are posted at branch entrances and on the Hours and location page of the OPL website.

Carp Branch

Carp branch will be closed on Tuesday, October 26, 2021 for operational use by the City of Ottawa. Regular service will resume Wednesday,  October 27, 2021 at 10 am.

Overdrive: Issues with older Apple devices or browsers

Recent changes by Overdrive and Libby have impacted compatibility with older versions of Apple's mobile and desktop operating systems. Those who use older Apple devices (Mac computers running lower than macOS 10.12.1 and iPhones/iPads running iOS 9) may have trouble using the OverDrive desktop or mobile apps, while Libby is no longer supported on iPhones and iPads running iOS 9.

Carlingwood branch: Elevator out of service

The elevator at Carlingwood branch is currently out of service.

Alta Vista branch: Extended curbside service

Curbisde holds and pick-up service will continue at the back door and parking lot from 10 am to 6 pm until further notice.

RBdigital Magazines Transition to OverDrive

The word OverDrive is written in blue on a white background./ Le mot OverDrive ércit en bleu sur un fond blanc.

Jan 18, 2021

As you know, OverDrive had acquired RBdigital last year. As a result, our Library’s RBdigital Unlimited Magazines (Zinio) service from RBdigital will be transferred to the OverDrive platform Libby on Thursday, January 28, 2021.

Starting that morning (around 8:00AM ET), all titles from the RBdigital Unlimited Magazines package will be gradually migrating to our OverDrive platform Libby. This process may take a few hours and once complete, it could take up to 24 hours for all titles to fully populate. After the transfer to OverDrive, the ZINIO magazine titles will also continue to be available in the RBdigital app until March 31, 2021.

A package of over 3,000 popular titles with varieties of languages and up to three years of back issues will be available for unlimited simultaneous access with no circulation caps, except The Economist

We are working together with OverDrive to commit to a smooth transition for our customers.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact our library InfoService. We are here and happy to help.

Will the Zinio app continue to work for reading issues

While I checked out magazines using RBDigital, I found that the reading experience was a lot better using Zinio. Will that continue to be possible?

Thank you for your question.

Thank you for your question. I still have not heard back from the vendor with the answer - I will respond once I have news.

Vendor response

Thank you for your patience - I have now heard from the vendor. Unfortunately, customers will not be able to see content borrowed from OverDrive on the Zinio app. I do find that the experience using the mobile app Libby is very good - I hope you find the the transition smooth. If you have other questions, don't hesitate to contact us again.
