The Recipe Box by Viola Shipman --- Adult Fiction Book Review

19/07/2018

This heartwarming novel pulls on all your heart stings the more you dive into the story line. Viola Shipman’s The Recipe Box, is a decadent story that tastes like a heavenly slice of homemade sugar cream pie!

I know I am a very slow reader, but I savoured every single page like it was the last bite of a decadent dessert!

The story takes place in northern Michigan. Throughout the story we grow to love the Mullins women; Sam (the newly unemployed sous chef who recently left NY City), her mother Deana, and her grandmother Willo. Over time we learn how the three generations of Mullins women have shaped and upheld their family apple orchard business; all under the help, and by lock and key, of their family recipe box. I truly enjoyed how the author included their own family recipes throughout chapter writings. Creamsicle Cake…Yum!

This contemporary novel makes you think of your family support system, love for each other, and the courage to try something new in hope of succeeding in the long run. I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars! This light and breezy read would pair perfectly with a hot summer day and a cold ice tea. Enjoy!
