Being a big fan of Disney’s Descendents series I was very excited when I heard that a follow-up story, titled Return to the Isle of the Lost was now published. Author Melissa De La Cruz surprises us with a powerful story about completely different friends coming together to help one another.
Return to the Isle of the Lost takes place in Auradon, an island ruled by Belle and The Beast from the classic story Beauty and The Beast. This story is centred around Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay, children born to iconic Disney Villains such as Maleficent, The Evil Queen, Cruella de Vil and Jafar. The arrival of a series of letters with instructions to come home to the Isle makes the villain children wonder if their parents are up to something. Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay face individual challenges and discover they need to work together in order to solve this mystery. Can they do it?
I really enjoyed this feel-good story. This novel is filled with twists and turns, some so unexpected, that I had to put down the book at times and think hard about what just happened. While I loved this novel, I would have liked some more details concerning some characters as well as some events covered in the story. At times I found it was hard to figure out what relation one character had with another, or the visual setting of a location.
Overall, I find this novel is a brilliant and exciting tale. It definitely keeps you wanting more and on the edge of your seat.
