  • Returns and Holds Pickup Service at OPL


    OPL is offering a new Returns and Holds Pickup service at six branch locations: Main, Nepean Centrepointe, Cumberland, Beaverbrook, Greenboro, Ruth E. Dickson, during new hours of operation.

    • Due dates for currently checked out materials have been extended and late fees suspended.
    • All book drops remain closed.

Returns and holds pickup services expanded to more locations



We are happy to announce the expansion of our returns and holds pickup service in the coming weeks. As part of this new service phase, customers will be able to reserve new Library items, and new branch locations will soon be offering returns and holds service. For details about the returns and holds pickup service, please refer to this page.



  •  Monday, June 29: Resumption of holds 

Starting June 29, customers will be able to reserve Library items again, with a temporary limit of 20 total holds per customer. Learn more about holds here. 


  • Monday, July 6: Curbside Service becomes Contactless Service 

Starting July 6, customers will be able to come inside the six currently open branches to pick up their holds and check them out using the checkout machines. At this time, appointments will still be required for customers who wish to pick up their available holds. 


  • Mid-July to mid-August: Contactless Service Expands 

The returns and holds contactless service will be expanded to these branches following this anticipated timeline (subject to change).


  • Monday, July 13Carlingwood, Carp, Greely, North Gloucester, St. Laurent, Stittsville. 
  • Monday, July 27: Alta Vista, Blackburn Hamlet, Centennial, Elmvale Acres, Emerald Plaza. 
  • Monday, August 10: Sunnyside, Hazeldean, Manotick, Orleans, Richmond, Rideau, Vanier 

The opening date for the following branches remains to be determined: Constance Bay, Fitzroy Harbour, Metcalfe Village, Munster, North Gower, Osgoode, Rockcliffe Park, Rosemount (Depot), Vernon, Kiosk, Bookmobile

OPL continues to work on a plan to safely provide the use of public computer and WiFi at its branches open for contactless service.  At this time, public computer and WiFi are not available for use.



Borrowed items can be returned to branches open for the contactless service during hours of operation. Book drops remain closed, but no appointment is required to return Library items


Signs at each of the branches open for contactless service will clearly indicate where to return library material. 


Due dates on all items that were checked out in March have been extended to give customers plenty of time to return their library materials. 


OPL cannot accept book donations at this time. 



Holds pickup will continue to be by appointment only. If your holds are available for pick up, you can make an appointment here.




The health and safety of our customers and employees is our highest priority.

  • Returned materials will be quarantined for 72 hours.
  • Returns and hold pickups will be contactless. 
  • Visible markers will be present at pickup locations to ensure physical distancing.
  • Employees will be practicing physical distancing, and they will wear masks if physical distancing is not possible. Regular cleaning and handwashing will be routine.
  • Branches are following enhanced cleaning protocols.
  • We recommend washing your hands after handling library materials


On Tuesday 23 June I received notice that I had two items ready for a pickup appointment. That evening I made an appointment for pickup on Thursday 25 June between 1730-1800.

On Wednesday 24 June I received a notice that a further four items were ready for a pickup appointment. according to your explanation all the items should have been checked out and ready for the Thursday pickup appointment.

When I just picked the items up, two of the second group were not included (they are listed as ready on my account) while one for which I had not received notification was checked out.

Is there any reason for this as I will not be allowed to pick up the two items until next week?
