Review: Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom

05/06/2017

Okay, so I am cheating a bit here and picking a book that is technically from the adult section, but this book is too good not to tell you guys about!

Mitch Albom is one of my favourite authors ever. He writes in a way that is good for all ages, and his books always contain the most complex and wonderful characters. This book, Tuesdays With Morrie, was so beautiful it moved me to tears.

16 years before the book was written, Mitch Albom promised his favourite university professor at graduation that he would come visit him. 16 years go by and Mitch grows up to be a different man than university him thought he would be. Consumed by his career and trying to figure out adult life for himself, he forgets all about his professor until he sees him on TV one night and discovers that he has been diagnosed with ALS. As his professor, Morrie’s, final days start to tick by Mitch finally works up the nerve to go visit him. After all those years Morrie still remembers Mitch and is as kind and wise as ever, even in the face of a slow and inescapable death. The pair decide to complete one last class together, a class of life. Every Tuesday Morrie and Mitch meet and Morrie passes on his experiences and insights on life, death, love, and everything in between to Mitch, as he slowly loses control of his body to ALS. The book Tuesdays With Morrie is all of these lessons compiled into one final “thesis”. Mitch learns about depending on others, giving and being selfless, the importance of letting your emotions free, and loving those around you.

I highly suggest you add this, or any of Mitch Albom’s books, to your summer reading list!
