Special Note for Parents-to-Be

Challenges of COVID-19 have made us all more aware of vulnerabilities. Caring for our loved ones and our community is constantly at the forefront of our minds. Protecting the health and safety of all of us guides our actions. It is important to take care.

Throughout this pandemic, Ottawa Public Health (OPH) has focused on ensuring safety measures are practiced and responsible decisions are made to protect Ottawans. To this end, the virtual and in-person Prenatal Classes have had to be suspended.

OPH continues to offer a wealth of information for parents and those 'becoming a parent in Ottawa' on the OPH Parenting in Ottawa website

OPH is still available for your personal concerns. Should you have specific questions that are not addressed on the Parenting in Ottawa website, please call OPH to chat with a public health nurse. The OPH Information Centre can be reached at 613-PARENTS (613-727-3687). This service is available Monday to Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

At your third trimester, your baby will be able to hear your voice. Reading aloud is remarkably beneficial to your baby. What you read doesn't matter to your baby! It is hearing your voice and hearing formal language structure that are helpful to your child's later language and literacy development. Here are some suggestions for you that your baby will enjoy listening to as well.  Take a look at  OPLs Parenting web page, as well, for more information and ideas!

Take care of yourselves during this incredible journey!
