As a part of Ottawa Public Library’s Teen Author Fest, Kendare Blake will be featured at the Nepean Centrepoint branch on Wednesday, October 30 at 7 pm to give a talk on her writing process and popular YA novels.
October is the perfect time to curl up with a blanket and a spooky book. If this sounds like bliss to you, Kendare Blake has you covered!
With her first duology, Anna Dressed in Blood and Girl of Nightmares, Blake introduces her audience to the titular Anna – a ghost who’s haunting the Victorian home where she was brutally murdered in 1958. Anna has killed every person who has dared entered the location of her untimely death. Cas Lowood is a teen capable of seeing the dead and has taken up haunting and eradicating them. He thinks Anna will be another typical ghost hunt, but when he enters the place she haunts, she miraculously lets him live.
Blake’s following trilogy, The Goddess War series, is an original reimagining of the Greek god pantheon. Born as ordinary humans on earth, Athena and Hermes are unaware of the existence of the gods. However, when Athena and Hermes fall fatally ill with fantastical symptoms, their search will bring them to the forefront of an ancient war between the members of the pantheon.
Blake’s most recent series, Three Dark Crowns, is a dark fantasy embroiled in political intrigue and magic. On the island of Fennbirn, female triplets are born every generation, all heirs to the throne. Each girl is gifted with a magical gift: Mirabella is an elemental, capable of controlling the weather; Katharine is a poisoner, able to ingest the deadliest of poisons; and Arsinoe is a naturalist, giving her a gift with animals and ability to control nature itself. Every generation, these young women must fight to the death for the crown, and only one can survive.
Whether it’s deadly gods, ghosts, or queens, Kendare Blake knows how to write a dark twisted tale. Whether you’re a long time or new fan, we hope you’ll consider joining us on October 30!
