Celebrate Capital Pride 2020 with the Ottawa Public Library

Aug 21 2020

In this extraordinary and tumultuous year, Ottawa Public Library is pleased to participate in 2020  Ottawa Capital Pride celebrations. OPL invites you to connect and celebrate virtually in the inclusive spirit of the organizers’ motto for this year: “Wherever we are” and OPL is proud to add these events to the agenda.

The Library invites everyone, and especially youth who identify as part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, to join a live conversation with debut transgender author ToblyMcSmith moderated by local consultant, educator and organizer Fae Johnstone

The whole family can celebrate throughout the week with live virtual Rainbow Storytimes that encourage diversity and promote acceptance.  Through books, stories, songs and rhymes about families, friendship, love and all the different and unique things that make us special.  What a great occasion to wear your favourite outfit!

Check out OPL’s  YouTube channel for some reading recommendations from members of Ottawa’s 2SLGBTQ+ community who share their favourite titles and explain why and how these books made an important on them. In addition to these personal and passionate picks, the Library’s YouTube channel will serve up some surprise videos later during Capital Pride week so please tune in.

Finally, do not worry about missing the parade – the proud festive fun is going virtual this year!  Capital Pride is assembling a video montage of floats of all kinds and making sure the parade will go on with many new and returning participants, including, of course, your friendly neighbourhood Bookmobile and OPL employees from many of our branches! Don’t miss the Virtual Pride Parade on Sunday, August 30 at 2pm.

Happy Pride 2020 from OPL!  Enjoy the festivities “Wherever you are!”
