Aging Well Together at the Library

May 13, 2020

Despite these uncertain times, OPL continues to offer its educational series for adults 55 years of age and older, and their caregivers, to promote healthy aging. The initiative is called Aging Well Together at the Library and leverages the expertise and offerings of various community partners to provide a rich resource hub to enhance life after 55.

To that end, every Friday this month at 10 AM, we will be hosting Online Seniors Fitness Classes. Fitness instructor Amanda Sterczyk will lead three 30-minutes workout that will include standing, seated and lying down exercises to help you keep fit at home. Click here to get all the details of the first training session.

On May 15 and June 5 at 12:30 PM, we are partnering with the Home Hospice Association to offer a second and third Death Cafe online. Our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. During the current pandemic, a safe and non-judgemental space to talk about something that feels even closer to home is more important than ever before. To register for this event, please visit the Home Hospice Association’s website.

The Council on Aging of Ottawa is also reaching out to seniors in Ottawa to learn about their experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. Go to our Aging Well Together at the Library webpage to take the survey and access information on a variety of healthy living topics.

Fitness classes

Your senior fitness sessions sound great But I don’t feel comfortable using zoom as it has a lot of security problems. Maybe you’ll think of another option like doing a webinar instead.

Thank you for your comment.

Thank you for your comment. We are indeed planning to use a webinar function and to record these sessions.
