David Graeber Was a Member of Occupy Wall Street

David Graeber, the deceased co-author of one of Sean Wilson’s picks, “The Dawn of Everything” was an anarchist and a founder of the Occupy Wall Street movement. Years before Occupy Wall Street, in 2001, he was part of the protests against the World Summit of the Americas in Quebec City that were such a headache for Canadian authorities. But Wilson had nothing to say about this. I don’t think either member of the Book Panel is a big sports fan but a lot of readers are. With the Peking Winter Olympics coming up, why weren’t there any sports books for discussion? I would have suggested Linda Blade and Barbara Kay’s “Unsporting: How Trans Activism and Science Denial Are Destroying Sport”. It would seem particularly apropos given that Timothy LeDuc of Team USA could become the first openly non-binary athlete to compete in a Winter Olympiad. Unfortunately, this book, published last May, is still not part of the OPL holdings, so one can’t really blame the book panel for not discussing it. It does make one wonder though, why such an important book, co-authored by one of Canada’s most respected journalists, has not been ordered. I put in a request that the OPL order it but haven’t heard back from anyone so far.
