Provincial State of Emergency: Impact to OPL Services

OPL services have not been impacted by the provincial announcement on Tuesday, January 12. Curbside returns and holds pickup services will continue at open branches.

Hours of operation will remain the same for most branches. Greely, North Gower, and Richmond branches will shift their hours to close by 8 p.m., and all Bookmobile stops will close by 8 p.m.

Cooking Demonstration with Chef Trudy Metcalfe-Coe: Blackened Arctic Char

Inuit Chef Metcalfe-Coe, usually based in Ottawa,  is currently in Iqaluit on a one-year contract as a peer advocate at the Qajuqturvik Community Food Centre. She will live-stream her demonstration of cooking with Arctic Char.  This recipe will be good whatever kind of firm fish people choose (salmon, char, cod, or haddock).

Chef Trudy Metcalfe-Coe was born in northern Newfoundland and Labrador, has lived in Ottawa since she was a 22-year-old single mom raising the first of her two daughters.
She has always worn many hats here and is currently a family support worker at Inuuqatigiit Centre for Inuit Children, Youth and Families on McArthur Avenue. Metcalfe-Coe has taken a variety of programs at Algonquin College, from restaurant and hotel management to social studies to museum technology and cultural industries training. But she never went culinary school despite achievements such as cooking caribou stew for 500 people on Parliament Hill in the late 1990s.  That said, she has been immersed in cooking since she was a child growing up in Nain, the northernmost permanent settlement in Newfoundland and Labrador, now within the Nunatsiavut region of Inuit Nunangat, homeland of Canada’s Inuit.
