Deep Winter Music Series - Justin Thériault - Flautist

Join us for an evening of traditional Irish music with Flautist Justin Thériault at the Rockcliffe Park branch of the Ottawa Public Library.  He will be sharing a collection of tunes from East Galway along with the rest of Ireland, to be enjoyed by all.

For the past 12 years Justin has been exploring Irish traditional music, seeking out recordings of long-gone players, playing in sessions in pubs and at festivals in Ottawa, Toronto, New York and Ireland, all the while building a deep repertoire of tunes. He started his traditional journey playing the tin whistle, later on upgrading to the wooden flute, and more recently has taken up the uilleann pipes, one of Ireland’s national instruments. He is currently obsessed with music in the regional style of East Galway, known for its flowing, melancholic tunes, and takes much inspiration from the great players of that style such as Paddy Carty, Paddy Fahey, Conor Tully and the Kane sisters.
