Great Canal Journeys: Rideau Canal

A special screening of the spectacular Rideau Canal episode of the series Great Canal Journeys, presented by The Historical Society of Ottawa.

Last summer Britain’s Channel 4 came to Ottawa to film an episode of a long-running program called Great Canal Journeys, starring the husband and wife team of Prunella Scales and Timothy West. After filming shows throughout the United Kingdom, the television production team came to Canada to feature the Rideau Canal. Starting at Kingston and the Thousand Islands, the two actors motor up the Canal, stopping along the way to talk to people and explain the history of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stops include Seeley’s Bay, Jones Falls, the Opinicon Inn, Merrickville, Hog’s Back Falls, and of course the locks in downtown Ottawa.

To thank the Historical Society for their help on this production, Channel 4 kindly gave the Society permission to hold a showing of this one-hour episode to its members and guests.  Join us for this special screening!
