The Historical Society of Ottawa presents: "Striking moments of solidarity in the Chaudière district"

Photograph of the Parliament Hill skyline taken between the end of the 19th century and 1916.

In 1924, "les allumetières" (match workers) of E.B. Eddy staged the first trike by women workers in Québec history. Three decades earlier, in 1891, 2,500 unionized sawmill workers had walked out in the largest strike-to-date in Canadian history.

Join Brian McDougall, adjunct professor from Carleton History and guide with Peoples’ History Walking Tours, to hear about these strikes and other important labour landmarks that took place in the Chaudière District.

Presented in partnership with The Workers' History Museum.
