How a Story Becomes a Story

Local author, editor and teacher Ian Roy walks participants through the life of a short story: from that first spark of an image or idea, to writing the first draft—and the second and third and possibly fourth—and then on to the crucial editing stage.

By reading and discussing passages from the work of authors from around the world, and by sharing personal experiences with writing short stories, the participants of this workshop will explore all the elements that go into making a story a story.

Come ready to participate!

Ian Roy is the author of four books, including his most recent collection of stories, Meticulous, Sad, and Lonely. He has taught writing, editing, and fiction courses (and workshops) for over a decade.
