Regular hours resume on September 7 2021


Ottawa Public Library will return to regular pre-pandemic hours at most branches starting Tuesday, September 7, 2021 — including Sunday hours at 10 branches and InfoService as of Sunday, September 12.  

Hours are posted at branch entrances and on the Hours and location page of the OPL website.   

Fitzroy Harbour and Vernon branches are reopening after being closed since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.

The elevator at the Carlingwood branch is currently unavailable.

Rideau branch-Elevator out of service


The elevator at Rideau is currently out of service for maintenance and repairs. Service will be restored on Monday, September 27th.

Imaginative Watercolours for Seniors Parts 1 and 2

Learn the basics while discovering fun and unexpected ways of painting with watercolours!  Join art instructor Maya Hum and learn how to let loose and let your painting show your imagination!  Learn about both classic and expressive painting topics.  In Part 1, you will learn the basics of watercolour painting and different ways to create wonderful effects with it. We will end the lesson with imaginative abstract to non abstract works!  In Part 2, we will continue exploring imaginative watercolours.  This lesson connects with the practice of Zen-tangle art. Follow step-by-step as the instructor guides you through this mindful lesson on how to imagine and illustrate a nature scene using paints and ink pen.   All levels welcome!

Register to attend and to receive the Zoom link. Kits with supplies and instructions will be provided.  Arrangements for pickup of kits will be made by email a week before Part 1.

In addition to the supplies in the kit, Maya suggests optional materials you can gather from home. These are not mandatory. salt, rubbing alcohol, dish soap, plastic wrap, wax crayon, candle or pastel (we will explain in class how to use these); and for Part 2, a hair dryer or fan.
